Swim Diapers

I don’t know how many of you watch Undercover Boss, but you must have seen the film clip of the boss who was working undercover at a water park retrieving an AFR from one of the shallow pools. Everyone found it very funny, but it’s a reality and not a very pleasant one. Children who are not potty trained need some sort of swim diapers. Regular disposables do not work. They absorb tremendous amounts of water and then disintegrate, polluting the pool and damaging the pool filters.

There are several companies that make reusable swim diapers for babies and toddlers. There are even adorable swimsuits for little girls with diapers inside and swim trunks for boys. These are eco friendly and will prevent solid waste from getting into your pool. They do not absorb water like the disposable diapers so your child will not have a “balloon bottom”. Gator Tots is one company that makes them and the colors and prints are really attractive. If your little swimmer is in the pool all summer long, these make a lot of sense and at $13-$26; they are not expensive at all. The best part is that the diaper is incorporated into the swimsuit, so you don’t have to struggle to get your kids into two garments.

Luvs Splashwear swim diapers get high marks from many parents. They come in three sizes and the color varies by size. They all have a wave pattern so they are appropriate for either sex. They have a 360 degree wrap-around elastic waistband that is several inches wide and are marked at the back so that you cannot put them on incorrectly. They are trim fitting and comfortable. At $5.99 for package of eleven; they are around $2.00 less than Huggies Little Swimmers.

One thing some parents feel could be improved is the colors and patterns. Many find them to be a bit loud, but you can always put a swimsuit over them provided you can hold your child still long enough. Going to the pool is very exciting. Some parents also feel that the sizing needs to be checked out. If your child is on the higher end of the weight range, they recommend sizing up.

Huggies Little Swimmers are another disposable swim diaper. They also come in three sizes and the prints feature Disney and Pixar characters like Nomo, the Little Mermaid, and Tiger and Pooh. They are really cute, but a bit more expensive than the Luvs brand.

Whether you choose reusable or disposable swim diapers, you can relax and not worry about accidents in your pool.
