Packing a Diaper Bag

Packing a Diaper Bag
I once heard a diaper bag described as a traveling nursery. That’s a very good description. You wouldn’t think that one tiny little baby would need so much stuff. If you think you have a lot of stuff in your purse, just wait until you start packing a diaper bag. It gives a whole new meaning to everything but the kitchen sink.
Obviously you will need diapers, baby wipes, a changing pad, powder, and diaper rash ointment. You need a space for bottles, food, snacks, toys, extra clothing, a hat, blanket, and sweater. We’re not done yet. It would not hurt to have a pacifier, baby spoon, Sippy cup, sunscreen, bibs, and a bag for soiled clothing and an extra shirt for you in case of spit up.
Is it any wonder that many parents print a list on the computer and check it off to be sure they have it all? Trust me; whatever you forget will be exactly what you need. If your baby is on any medications, have some with you as well as your pediatrician’s phone number. If there is any room left, you may want to stash your camera because you never keno when there will be an adorable photo op. Oops, don’t forget a hairbrush, so baby will be ready for a close up.
A lot of parents find it very helpful to have two diaper bags packed and ready to go. A smaller one for trips to the store and short drives is a necessity. A larger weekender diaper bag is great for all day trips and a weekend away at Grandma’s house. These are luggage inspired diaper bags that will hold several days’ worth of supplies and many changes of clothing. Babies after all are messy little things. Until they are older you can count on spilled food, spit up, and messy diapers. I think toilet training would be the first thing on my list if I had a baby. I remember when my little brother was a baby. I was a teenager at the time so I got a lot of training in baby care. My mother was thrilled when he started to walk because he followed my dad into the bathroom and was nearly instantly toilet trained. He wanted to do everything like dad and that included using the toilet.
One you develop a system for packing a diaper bag, your life is going to be so much easier. You will be ready for any occasion in a flash.
